March 1977 |
Korean Women's Institute(KWI) was established. [KWI was created
by abolishing and merging two research institutes - Research Institute
for Korean Women's History (formed in 1972) and Women's Resource Development
Institute (formed in 1970).]
As the first Director of KWI, Prof. KIM Yung-Chung (Dep't of History)
was appointed. (She was reappointed to the 2nd Director of KWI.) |

September 1977 |
KWI opened a course in Women's Studies as a regular
undergraduate curriculum for the first time in Korea. |
|
March 1982 |
KWI contributed to establishing the Department of Women's Studies
(M.A. program), Graduate School. The Director of KWI held the post
of Chair of the Department until August 1985. |

April 1983 |
Prof. CHUNG Sei-Wha (Dep't of Education) was appointed as the 3rd
Director and reappointed as the 4th in 1986. |

December 1984 |
KWI's periodcal, Yosung'hak-Non'jib(Women's Studies
Review) was first issued. |

March 1989 |
Prof. CHO Hyoung (Dep't of Sociology) was appointed as the 5th Director.

March 1992 |
Prof. CHANG Pilwha (Dep't of Women's Studies, Graduate School) was
appointed as the 6th Director. |

August 1993 |
Prof. LEE Bae-Yong (Dep't of History) was appointed as the 7th Director. |
|
December1994 |
KWI was extended and reorganized in structure. |
|
May 1995 |
Asian Center for Women's Studies(ACWS) was established
under the umbrella of KWI. The Director of KWI held the post of the
Director of ACWS for a while. |

August 1995 |
Prof. LEE Bae-Yong was reappointed as the 8th Director. |
|
December 1995 |
KWI was selected as a university institute intensively supported
by Korea Research Foundation. (Research Theme: Women in the Changes
of Modern Korean Society ) (The number of sub-themes: 4) |

August 1997 |
Prof. LEE Sang-Hwa (Dep't of Philosophy) was appointed as the 9th
Director. |

August 1999 |
Prof. CHANG Pilwha (Dep't of Women's Studies, Graduate School) was
appointed as the 10th Director and held the post of the Director of
Asian Center for Women's Studies at the same time. |

Prof. CHO Soon-Kyung (Dep't of Women's Studies, Graduate School)
was appointed as the 12th Director. |
